Essentia Health Fitness Expo kicks off Grandma’s Marathon weekend

More than 50 vendors will be on hand this week as the Essentia Health Fitness Expo officially kicks off the 45th annual Grandma’s Marathon weekend in Duluth.

Free and open to the public, this year’s expo shifts to the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center’s (DECC) Pioneer Hall and will have a slightly different layout than in years past to help allow for appropriate social distancing.

“We’re working with more than double the space of a typical year,” Registration & Expo Director Laura Bergen said, “so that will allow our attendees to still have a great experience while also feeling as safe and as comfortable as possible. It’s just a great feeling to be back after a year away, and we’re excited to once again share our event and our community with our participants and their families and friends.”

Among this year’s vendors will be Advantage Emblem, the official merchandiser of Grandma’s Marathon, with 45th anniversary memorabilia including T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, and gear from new presenting sponsor, ASICS.

Attendees will also find plenty of photo opportunities throughout the expo, including a place to record video messages that will play along the racecourse as participants pass a video board.

The two-day Essentia Health Fitness Expo is open from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 17 and from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, June 18.

Participants may also pick up their race packets during this time, and that option actually extends to 11:00 p.m. on Friday, June 18. The packet pickup area is connected to the expo and located inside the DECC Arena.

Masks or face coverings will not be required but are strongly encouraged while attending the 2021 Essentia Health Fitness Expo, regardless of vaccination status.
