Duluth East High School officials announced today the hire of Steve Pitoscia as head coach for the Duluth East boys hockey program.

I look forward to working hard at maintaining the high standard that Coach (Mike) Randolph has set for the program over the last three decades.

“Most importantly I’m looking forward to working with the team. I’m excited to start learning about each of them and getting to know them all. At the end of the day this is about the young men in that dressing room and providing them with a great high school experience.”

Pitoscia’s coaching career highlights include:

. Leading the top bantam team in Minnesota’s number one rated hockey program for 17 years (Let’s Play Hockey, 2019)

Helping contribute to the development of:

. USA Hockey Defenseman of the Year Andy Welinski (2012)

. Two Dave Tyler Junior Player of the Year Award winners, Jack Connolly and Andy Welinski (2008 and 2012)

. Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner Jack Connolly (2012)

. 1st Round NHL draft selection Derek Forbort (15th overall, 2010),
along with several players with NHL service time, three of which currently play in the NHL

In addition to player development success, the team culture developed over 25 years led to five Minnesota VFW State Championships.

“Duluth East High School is excited to welcome Coach Steve Pitoscia as our Duluth East Head Boys Hockey Coach,” said Shawn Roed, Activity Director for Duluth East. “Coach Pitoscia has an exceptional track record of success at many different levels of hockey and that combined with his passion make him an ideal person to lead the program into the future.”
