Tour-boat company has defibrillator onboard

By Sylvia Wier
Voyageurs Outfitters said it has equipped its flagship boat, the Yellow Jacket, with an AED-brand defibrillator which can be hailed by marine radio or cell phone.

The company received a $5,000 grant from the Koochiching Community Development Association, and along with matching funds, bought the defibrillator and upgraded some safety gear.

Eric Johnson, owner of Voyageurs Outfitters, said the defibrillator will be on board the boat at all times and can be hailed, free of charge, on VHF channel 16.

Voyageurs Outfitters is a full-service outfitter and boat-tour company in Voyageurs National Park.

The KCDA provides small grants to for-profit and non-profit companies and organizations for community-based projects.
