The No. 6-ranked Bulldogs prepared for their 2021-22 college men’s hockey home-and-home season openers against No. 14 Bemidji State next weekend with a 4-2 exhibition win over No. 11 Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon in Chippewa Falls, Wis.
Carter Loney, Hunter Lellig, Casey Gilling and Jesse Jacques had Bulldogs goals, and returning goaltenders Ben Patt, Ryan Fanti and Zach Stejskal each got in one period of work.
“We did some good things and some bad things, but it was good to get the win,” UMD coach Scott Sandelin said of the neutral site victory. “I thought both teams battled hard. It was an early-season game, but it was a good chance to get a look at some of our young guys. Overall, a lot of good starting points and a lot of good teaching points from the game.”
Bemidji will host the Friday series opener, with the Saturday nightcap held at Amsoil Arena in Duluth. Both nonconference games will begin at 7:07 p.m.
