Bulldogs men sweep Bemidji State, face No. 3 Michigan Friday

The Bulldogs completed a season-opening, home-and-home college men’s hockey series sweep against nonconference Bemidji State with a 2-1 victory before 5,874 at Amsoil Arena on Saturday night.

Sophomore forward Blake Biondi of Hermantown scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period for UMD (2-0), which defeated the Beavers 4-2 in Bemidji in both team’s season opener Friday night.

Fifth-year senior forward Kobe Roth also scored for the Bulldogs, and junior goaltender Ryan Fanti stopped 15 of 16 shots.

Fifth-ranked UMD will face No. 3 Michigan in a 2021 Ice Breaker tournament semifinal Friday at 7:37 p.m. at Amsoil Arena.
