After reopening in August at its new location at 2125 West Superior Street, the Duluth Children’s Museum is looking for support from the community to expand.

The building, formerly operating as a restaurant, has required extensive construction to transform it into a place for children and families, and currently the first floor is open to the public. To allow access to the second floor, where the museum can double its playspace, exhibits, and programs, it needs an elevator.

“We are proud of the space we have created for kids in our community but we knew getting the first floor open was only the beginning,” said Cameron Kruger, President/CEO of the Duluth Children’s Museum. “There is more need for playful learning than we can provide with one floor and an elevator is the key to activating the whole building for exhibits.”

The museum’s board is asking the community to donate in November as part of Give to the Max Day (November 18) and Giving Tuesday (November 30) by going to www.playduluth.org/give.

Due to a wastewater pipe replacement between South Central Avenue and Recycle Way, a portion of the Cross City Trail will be closed until the end of November.

The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District is completing the work, and as of November 3 has placed detour signs in place during construction. The detour will route trail users at South Central Avenue to Bristol Street. From there, users will follow Bristol Street/ Mike Colalillo Drive to Grand Avenue.

The portion of the trail that will be impacted will be restored by the end of November and will be usable during the winter months. New asphalt is planned to be poured in this section next spring.
