Local film gets final release at Fitger’s

A long-anticipated independent film shot in Duluth is finally getting its premiere screening.

Battlemage Films will host the Director’s Cut of Gleahan and the Knaves of Industry at 7 p.m. Jan. 22 at Fitger’s Spirit of the North Theatre in Duluth.

The film garnered a lot of fanfare among Minnesota’s film community in 2018, though it also earned some criticism for feeling unpolished. It screened at that year’s Duluth-Superior Film Festival and appeared at other venues across the U.S. including Gen Con, a major gaming convention in Indianapolis, Ind.

The turbulence of the COVID-19 pandemic provided an opportunity for director Samuel T Weston and the crew to give the film the attention it deserved.

“It feels totally different now,” Weston said in a press release. “If you saw the 2018 cut next to this new version, you’d be forgiven for thinking they’re different films.”

Changes to the film include overhauled sound effects, a new color grade, more visual effects, a re-recorded original score and some new footage shot in 2021.

“This is the version audiences are going to love and appreciate,” said associate producer Kelly Lamphear-Dash. “The extra work — the new score, all these details — are really going to be enjoyed once people see it.”

Tickets are available at tickets.gleahan.com and more information can be found at press.glahan.com.
