Saturday Morning at the Races series begins

The popular Saturday Morning at the Races series, which provides opportunity for area kids to stay active during the cold winter months, will have its 2022 debut this Saturday at the College of Saint Scholastica.

The Young Athletes Foundation (YAF) and Grandma’s Marathon will partner with three area colleges this winter for the 2022 series, giving help to our region’s children in living healthy and active lifestyles.

This year’s full Saturday Morning at the Races schedule is listed below:

January 8 – College of Saint Scholastica

January 22 – University of Minnesota Duluth

February 5 – University of Wisconsin Superior

The Saturday Morning at the Races series is free and open to all children ages 14 and under, with adaptive and wheelchair athlete opportunities available at all locations. Participants, based on age, will have the opportunity to complete either a 1/8-mile, a 1/4-mile, or a 1/2-mile course, and every child will also receive a T-shirt co-branded with that weekend’s college partner.

Races will start at 10:00 a.m. each week, and participants will be separated into different heats based on the number of kids in any specific age group. Due to mandates at each of our partnering college campuses, masks will be required of all participants, parents, spectators, volunteers, and staff during each of this year’s events.

Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to register in advance at grandmasmarathon.com. Kids and their families can register for all remaining events at once, or pick and choose the dates and locations that work best for them. On-site registration will also be available each week starting at 9:00 a.m.
