The City of Duluth is excited to welcome Red Bull and its participants in the Heavy Metal Return to the Streets event to Cascade Park on Sunday.
The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the practice for competitors. The space around the park will open to the public at 11:30 a.m., with the competition starting at 1 p.m.
The competition includes three zones that will take place at three different times. The first zone is The Tower which consists of the contest’s biggest zone for jumps and airtime, with the potential for riders to blast out of the tower window with a 15ft-20ft drop and over the walls surrounding the massive structure. This will begin at 1 p.m.
The second zone that will start at 2:30 p.m. is the Playground Zone. This includes the contest’s technical zone: Down bars, transfers, trees, tables, and lots of fun options for riders to show off their style.
The final zone is the heaviest and includes the infamous kink rail, stairs, closeout handrails, and an abundance of lines for the brave of heart.
An awards ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. to close the event.
Streets around the park will be closed beginning at 7 a.m. on Sunday, January 16. Roads will be closed at Lake Avenue, West 6th Street, and 5th Street at North 1st Avenue West. Residents have been notified, and no parking signs have been installed in the affected areas.
Those wanting to attend the event are encouraged to park at Marshall School located at 1215 Rice Lake Road. Free parking and a shuttle to and from the school to the park will be provided from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Loading will occur at Marshall School in the bus loop at the opposite end of the lot from the hockey arena. Pick-ups and drop-offs will take place at 6th Street and Lake Avenue.
Due to a lack of parking options close to the event, the City strongly encourages the public to park at Marshall School, park downtown and walk up to the event, or use public transportation to get there.
A live stream of the event will be available for TikTok subscribers. The event can be found at the RedBullSnow TikTok channel. For more information about the event, please visit https://win.gs/liveheavymetal.
“The City of Duluth is grateful to Red Bull for selecting us to host this exciting event,” said City of Duluth Chief Administrative Officer Noah Schuchman. “This is the second time in less than two years that we have worked with Red Bull to host an event with national exposure. We appreciate the chance to show off our outdoor amenities and highlight a gem in our Central Hillside.”
