Quote Me: Phill Homere

Denfeld boys basketball coach Phill Homere on his team’s impressive 80-42 Section 7AAA quarterfinal victory over Hibbing on Wednesday night, the team’s seventh consecutive win and before a thunderous crowd at historic Denfeld Gym: “The boys played some good basketball last night, when we were able to play 17 kids who all contributed in a special way. I think our defensive pressure has really improved and puts us in a great position to continue to be successful. Looking ahead to the semis (Friday at North Branch), I know our guys are very hungry. They remember the early-season loss against North Branch and they are looking forward to the rematch. Last night’s game gave us a chance to rest some of our key guys and we should be good to go come Friday. I am truly happy on how hard my team has been playing. I am thankful for a great coaching staff and our amazing fans. We will be ready to go Friday.”

Said legendary Denfeld High boys and girls basketball and volleyball public address announcer Joe Westerberg: “Fantastic win! So nice to see everyone contribute. If they play like I know they can (play smart, limit turnovers and make free throws), this team will put up a good challenge to North Branch on Friday. This is a great team filled with some amazing kids.”
